Although we love Flake, Kandy & other custom paint effects if you require something a little more subtle we put the same amount of care & attention into providing a first class finish in all of our work.

Recent work from the Royal Kustoms paint shop:
This beautiful paint job started life as ‘a bit of a tidy up’ as the previous red paint job was looking a little faded.
First Jim thought he’d try out some kandy apple red on the firewall to see how it looked …..& the rest is history.
Once the decision was made that the car was getting the full treatment, the first jobs were to get all the old paint off, straighten out the bodywork & primer.
Next stage was to lay down the House of Kolor Gamma Gold base coat
Add plenty of House of Kolor Dark Gold flake
Topped off with 6 coats of burgundy kandy, followed by 8 coats of lacquer…
Finishing touches courtesy of Neil Melliard
End result a stunning show winning custom paint job.
Pete’s ambition has always been to own an award winning VW bus. He wanted to achieve this without going crazy so we discussed the best way to go about it & came up with the idea of using a stock traditional Volkswagen paint scheme & adding a few custom touches.
First job was to get the major dents out & straighten the notoriously wobbly volkswagen bus bodywork (more about this on bodywork & fabrication pages).
Once this mammoth task was completed the sealing wax red & beige grey paint was laid down but with a subtle difference. A layer of House of Kolor abalone pearl flake was added over the beige grey & then lacquered giving a really subtle custom paint effect.
More pictures coming soon.
Sue brought the Suburban in from the US to use as a work horse for their business Hot Rod Tiki. It arrived here in red oxide. The first job was to strip the whole car back to bare metal to see what we had to work with. Once this was done it was clear it needed quite a bit of body work to get it looking straight, luckily there was not a patch of rust anywhere.
Once the body was straight and primered Jim flaked the roof, firewall, interior panels, dash, grill and clam shell. This was done using Roth gold flake sprayed on dry so no base coat shows and then coated with 12 coats of clear to bury the massive amount of flake used (4 ½ pounds). After a good flat back it was time to hunt for the correct lace to use. Once found it was time to mask off the car and lay the lace and start spraying.
First was to spray 7 coats of Kandy burgundy on the lace.
Then we removed the lace and applied 5 coats of Kandy tangerine over the whole area which was then lacquered.
The rest of the car was sprayed in VW pearl cream to give a nice contrast.
The finishing touches once again supplied by ace pinstriper Neil Melliard with Tiki styled striping & signwriting completing the Pacific theme.
